We aim to develop children’s self-awareness, independence and responsibility through our programme of residential visits, running from year 3 to year 6. We offer a variety of local and distant residential opportunities and encourage all our children to participate, as much of the learning that takes place on the visits is relevant to, and enhances, everyday learning in the classroom.
We realise that staying away from home can be a daunting experience and so we build up the time and distance away from home gradually. We see a big difference in the children’s resilience and independence by the time they reach year 6, if they have been on all the previous residential visits. We keep in touch with home through Twitter while away, so that parents can see what we are up to and know that we are all safe and happy!
- Year 3 - In the Summer Term, as an introduction to school residentials, Year 3 children can join in the “Big Sleepover” in school.
- Year 4 - In the Summer Term children have the opportunity to visit Hawse End, on Derwent Water, again very local, to sleep in the yurts there.
- Year 5 - In Year 5 children enjoy an extended outdoor adventurous residential at Fellside, Caldbeck which takes place in the Spring Term.
- Year 6 - Each Autumn Term, we pack up our cases and head off to the big city for a 4 day trip to London.
